Aldi Application Process

When applying to Aldi the first step is filling in the application form, this form requires you to fill in your basic details, your previous work experience and your previous education.

If you are applying to a position at Aldi you will usually be asked to perform a few assessment tests published for Aldi by Saville Assessment (formerly Saville Consulting). If you successfully complete these assessment tests during the Aldi Assessment day, Aldi may invite you for an Aldi video assessment interview. During this stage of the process, your skills and fit for the job you are applying for will be assessed. This is an interview to get to know you better, and you can expect some motivational and competency-based questions.

For some positions, you may be invited to an Aldi assessment centre, where you will be assessed on some exercises and activities for one day. One of the exercises is a presentation where you introduce yourself to the group of candidates. Then this is followed by an Aldi Group Assessment test. After this, you will conduct the same Aldi Assessment Test as before in the application procedure, and at last, there will be a Q&A session and an Aldi personality test. 

Aldi Video Interview and STAR-Method

If you pass the psychometric test part of the application process you’re usually invited for a video call, also called a video interview. Make sure you have access to a PC equipped with a webcam, microphone, and good internet connection. Approach the interview professionally and stick to a formal dress code you would wear for a ‘normal’ interview. 

During this interview, you will have to answer approximately 10 questions. You’re given 30 seconds to prepare and think of an answer before recording, which starts automatically. The questions will be asked in a text format and appear on your screen. 

The answers to your questions will give the recruiters information about your past experiences and thought processes as they relate to the position you applied to. Their goal is to understand how well you would fit within the culture at Aldi. 

A series of standardized questions will be asked about for instance your past experiences, think of questions such as: 

  • Describe a time that you have set a high standard for yourself.
  • Tell me about a time when you took the initiative to tackle a problem.
  • Give an example of a time you achieved something ambitious, how you did it and why you were proud of it.
  • Where do you see yourself in five years?
  • What did you study and how will this benefit you in the role you are applying for? 

You can also expect questions about Aldi itself, for instance, what you think is the most interesting thing you have learned about the company from your research. Therefore, make sure you research the company and its policies thoroughly before you take the interview. Figure out answers to basic questions, such as ‘why do you want to work here?’. 

It’s important to give a complete response to the behavioural questions to let the interviewers thoroughly understand why you acted the way you did and what your thought process was. In order to provide a comprehensive response, you can use the STAR method. 

The STAR method is short for Situation, Task, Action, Result. Each concept is a step you can take to answer a behavioural interview question. By completing all four steps in answering a question you can provide a thorough answer. The concepts in the STAR acronym include: 

Situation: This is where you describe the context within which you performed a specific job, task or faced a challenge at work. For example, you were working on a project in a team where you got into a conflict with a coworker. 

Task: Next, describe your role and responsibility in the earlier mentioned situation. What were you doing and what was expected of you? 

Action: After describing your task, describe what actions you took to complete this task. Focus here on what you did, rather than what team members, your boss or other coworkers did.

Result: Finally, explain the outcomes or results of the actions that you took. Emphasize what you accomplished and what you learned from the particular situation.

Aldi Assessment Centre

The exercises and activities that you will be required to complete at the Aldi Assessment Centre consist of different elements and are taken simultaneously with other candidates (usually approximately 10-12 people). During this Aldi Assessment day, you will have to perform a case study combined with an individual presentation and a group assessment. However, the exact composition of the Aldi individual assessment and Aldi group assessment exercises during the assessment day may vary depending on the position for which you’re applying.

The Aldi group assessment is a problem-solving exercise. It’s up to you and your team members to discuss a scenario and reach a consensus. The key to success here is to show that you are able to give reasoned arguments as to your ideas and be subtly persuasive. However, next to show-casing your ability to give reasoned arguments you should also encourage others and listen to their ideas. 

During the assessment day, you also have the opportunity to ask questions about Aldi. Make sure you have prepared 3 to 4 well-thought-out questions, in case somebody asks the same question that you wanted to ask. Make sure you research the company thoroughly and don’t ask any questions that you could’ve found the answer to yourself on the company pages or Google.

Aldi Verbal Analysis Aptitude Test

The Verbal Analysis Test measures the ability to comprehend written information. Candidates' are required to make logical deductions based on a provided section of text. The Saville Assessment Verbal Analysis Test usually contains a series of passages followed by questions that need to be answered based on the information presented. This test typically takes around 24 minutes.

The passage states that “Trade unions provide supports to employees in availing healthy wages to allow them and their families to have better living and be financially safeguarded.”- but, it does not surely mean that employees can even be financially safeguarded without doing any job. Aldi Numerical Analysis Test

The Numerical Analysis Tests are used to measure a candidate's mathematical skills and the ability to analyze and interpret numerical data. These tests are designed to assess the understanding of tables of statistical and numerical data, as well as the ability to make logical deductions. This test typically takes around 24 minutes.

Aldi Abstract Reasoning Test

The Abstract Reasoning Test assesses the ability to reason and form logical conclusions from information without normal language. The tests usually consist sequence of shapes displayed in a row. The candidates’ task is to find the logical pattern through inductive reasoning. Then the candidate is then asked to choose the correct missing shape, which can be either at the end or in the middle of the sequence. This test usually takes 6 minutes in the swift version or 16 minutes in the long version.

Aldi Verbal Comprehension Test

Verbal Comprehension Tests are used to assess a candidate’s ability in comprehending written text. The candidate will be given some passages to read, like short articles or operating instructions. Thereafter, the candidates are asked to answer questions about these passages. A full-length test will take around 16 minutes and when the test is combined with other comprehension tests the test will take around 3 minutes.

Aldi Spatial Reasoning Test

The Spatial Reasoning Tests assesses the ability to apply spatial judgment and visualize objects from multiple angles. The candidate is required to solve rotational and transformation problems, visualize objects and identify a specific object that is different. The spatial reasoning test is commonly used in aptitude tests for job positions that require technical ability. This test typically takes around 8 minutes.

Aldi Situational Judgment Test

The Situational Judgement Test is designed to measure a candidates’ ability to choose the action that is most appropriate in a workplace situation. With your answers, a company can assess how you would handle certain situations that you might encounter in the job that you have applied for. In a Situational Judgement Test, you will be given a certain problem related to the job you are applying for, and a few possible actions are given. Your task is to rate the different possible actions from highly undesirable to highly desirable.

In the example above the most likely to do should be the second response and the least likely the first response.

The first response is the most effective response as you are trying to solve his problem without having him do more. By contacting the person who initially received the complaint, you are avoiding having to duplicate functions as the person might have gained some ground in trying to solve the problem.

The second response is less effective because requesting him to call back the next day is unnecessary and you are putting extra stress on him in addition to the problem he already had with his software. You can take out a few minutes and gather the necessary information you need to help him before going home.
