When applying for a job at BMW, you must complete an online application. This online application form contains standard application details, information about your previous work experience, and your qualifications. You will also be asked some specific questions relating to the minimum criteria for the position. If this is successful, BMW will usually ask you to take part in a telephone interview.
When your telephone interview is a success, BMW will usually invite you to attend the BMW assessment center. You will be asked to perform several tasks and activities at this assessment center. In most cases, you will be asked to do a written exercise, or a situational judgement test. Usually, BMW also asks you to complete Numerical, Verbal, and Logical reasoning tests. Furthermore, you will usually have more than one interview with different HR and management team members.
In a situational judgement test, several situations will be presented to you and you will have to pretend to be present in that specific situation. With that in mind, you are going to have to respond or react to these situations.
An SJT operates with four different answer models:
Based on a scenario, you will see several work-related situations.
In a numerical reasoning test, candidates must answer questions using facts and figures presented in statistical tables (work with percentages, proportions, fractions, ratios, estimations, and currency conversions). Numerical reasoning tests are one of the most commonly used aptitude tests during a job application. Numerical reasoning tests are standardized psychometric assessments that provide the employing organization with information about a candidate’s general numerical aptitude. These tests measure a candidate’s ability to make correct decisions or inferences from numerical or statistical data. It is intended to measure the ability to work with numerical data in a realistic workplace context.
A verbal reasoning test basically comes down to reading comprehension. The test provides better/additional insight into the contestant's expected work level. It also provides a more accurate image of the contestant than just the CV or a job interview. Therefore, the verbal reasoning test is used to determine, with or without other assessment tests, which candidate is best suited for the job.
In a logical reasoning test, the candidate’s ability at skills such as how to interpret patterns and/or the relationships between shapes is assessed. It is up to the candidate to select the answer that best fits the missing symbol in a given grid of symbols.
BMW uses, depending on the specific job profile, one or more of the following psychometric tests during their recruitment process:
